Terms of use
Effective 25 October 2026
The short version. You enter amounts, Tidy Sum does the maths and shows rough projections. They’re estimates, not financial advice. Plus is a one-off purchase through Apple, with no subscription. Your rights under consumer law always apply.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Tidy Sum is made by Adam Coleman, trading as Afterglow Studio (ABN 55 660 075 110), in South Australia (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at adam@afterglowstudio.com.au.
You get Tidy Sum from the App Store under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the “Apple EULA”). These terms add to it and explain how Tidy Sum works. Our privacy policy explains what happens to your information.
Nothing in these terms or the Apple EULA excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or other consumer laws, that can’t lawfully be excluded (see section 8).
2. Estimates, not advice
Tidy Sum is a calculator. You enter your pay, bills, savings goals and debts; it works out what to put away each pay and shows rough projections, such as when a debt might be paid off and about how much interest it might cost. These are estimates from what you enter. They don’t take into account your full financial situation, objectives or needs, and they aren’t financial, credit, tax or legal advice. You decide what to pay and when.
The estimates assume, among other things, that:
- the amounts, rates, repayments and dates you enter are right and stay the same unless you change them;
- interest is worked out monthly at the rate you enter, and any 0% period ends on the date you enter;
- repayments are made in full and on time, with no new spending, fees or charges;
- savings interest, if you enter a rate, is added monthly.
Your lender works interest out its own way (usually daily), and its statements show what you actually owe. A debt-free date or goal date is a projection, not a promise. The monthly balance check helps keep the plan close to your statements.
Where Tidy Sum offers a choice, such as which debt gets extra or where leftover pay goes, it shows what each option means. The choice is yours.
Tidy Sum doesn’t recommend or compare any financial product, and nothing in it changes what you owe a lender or when your repayments are due.
If debt feels like too much, free and confidential help is available. In Australia: the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 and Moneysmart. In the UK: MoneyHelper and StepChange.
3. Your plan
Your plan is stored on your iPhone (see the privacy policy). We have no copy, so we can’t restore it if your phone is lost or you delete it. Keep your iPhone backed up.
If you share a plan with a partner, they can see and change the items you share. Only share with someone you trust, and leave the shared plan if that changes. An invite works for 24 hours or until your partner joins. Until then, anyone with the link or code can use it, so send it only to your partner.
4. Free and Plus
Tidy Sum is free to download and use for one person’s plan, within the limits shown in the app. Tidy Sum Plus adds more; the Plus screen in the app shows what’s included and the price before you buy.
One purchase, not a subscription
Plus is a one-off purchase of A$49.99 (or the equivalent shown on your country’s App Store), charged to your Apple Account when you confirm it. It doesn’t renew and there’s nothing to cancel.
Plus unlocks, without further payment, for as long as Tidy Sum is offered on the App Store, on devices signed in to your Apple Account. It includes every 1.x update. If we ever release a major new version (2.0) with new paid features, what you’ve bought keeps working as it does. If we ever stop offering Tidy Sum, we’ll do what we reasonably can so the version already on your phone keeps working with Plus, though it would stop getting updates.
Family Sharing and restoring
Plus can be shared with up to five other members of your Family Sharing group. If you reinstall the app or get a new iPhone, use Restore purchases on the Plus screen.
5. Refunds
Apple sells Plus and handles payments, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Apple decides them under its own terms. We can’t issue refunds directly, but if something is wrong with Plus, email us and we’ll help put it right. This doesn’t limit your rights under consumer law (see section 8).
6. Changes to Tidy Sum
We update Tidy Sum to fix problems and improve it, and features may change. We won’t take away a Plus feature you’ve bought. If a change means Plus no longer does what you paid for, tell us and we’ll help you get a refund.
7. Using Tidy Sum fairly
Use Tidy Sum for your own planning, within the law. Please don’t copy, resell or reverse-engineer the app, except where the law allows it. The name, icon and app belong to us.
8. Your consumer rights
Australia. Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled to cancel your service contract with us and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods. If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.
UK. You have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including that digital content is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these terms affects them.
Elsewhere. You keep any rights under the consumer laws where you live that can’t be excluded.
9. Our responsibility
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the consumer laws above, or our liability for anything that can’t lawfully be limited, such as death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
Subject to that, because Tidy Sum shows estimates from what you enter, we aren’t responsible for loss that comes from:
- amounts entered incorrectly, or not updated when a balance, rate or repayment changes;
- the difference between our estimates and how your lender actually works out what you owe;
- a payment you make, or don’t make, to a lender or biller;
- losing data you didn’t back up.
10. Ending
You can stop using Tidy Sum at any time by deleting it. We’d only end your use of Tidy Sum for serious misuse, such as tampering with the app or using it unlawfully. Your plan stays on your iPhone either way.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change could affect you in a meaningful way, we’ll tell you in the app or its update notes before it applies. Changes won’t reduce what a Plus purchase you’ve already made includes, unless the change is to your benefit.
12. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. If you live outside Australia, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
